After over a year of working from home, in August, staff at Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) were returning to the office in downtown Denver. One change CHFA wanted to make before staff returned was to restructure their employee parking, making it more equitable for all members of the team.
Prior to COVID-19, the staff parking was allocated based on seniority. Because some staff traveled as part of their role and often worked remotely, many parking spaces sometimes sat empty. In addition, more staff currently work remotely than before the pandemic. With 115 parking spaces and 200 employees, many members of the team were missing out on onsite parking.
CHFA chose to remove parking allocations and make most of their parking bays available to any employees coming into the office on a day-to-day basis. To manage this transition, CHFA implemented Parkable.
Transitioning to flexible, fair parking
The Parkable app allows employees to reserve parking one day in advance, and check parking availability in real time. With Parkable, all members of staff can access parking at work for the first time, and they know whether there will be a parking space available for them.
“With Parkable, parking has been made easy for our staff, and the spaces aren’t sitting empty. The app is easy and intuitive to use, the admin panel gives us really useful information about the parking lots, and the Parkable team has been fantastic throughout this process.”
- Brian Miller, Director Asset Management, CHFA
Parkable’s admin panel also gives CHFA the visibility to track who is using which parking spaces. Already, they have learned that their outside lot of over 30 parking spots isn’t being used by staff, so may sublet them to a contractor to generate revenue from public parking.
One of the best features of Parkable's parking management software is that it allows companies to make the most efficient use of all of their parking bays - even those assigned to individuals.
Solving workplace parking problems is vital to an effective facility management program, but it's also a complicated proposition. Managing parking lots at scale will quickly become more complex than you may have bargained for.
