Parkable is growing

Parkable, the New Zealand parking automation start-up has completed its most recent capital raise taking on a $10 million investment from Christopher & Banks (Pushpay investor Peter Huljich and associates).

Including monies raised with a convertible note issued in May this year, $8.6 million of new investment has come into the business which CEO Toby Littin says will facilitate the establishment of business development and customer service functions in the USA where most of the company’s new customers are based.


Following the transaction, Christopher & Banks become the biggest single investor in the firm.

Parkable CEO Toby Littin said; “Having Peter and his team and expertise join us and help guide our US and global scale up is incredibly encouraging.  We have already established an office in the US and much of our future recruitment will be there and so it helps having someone with us who has done all that before”.

Parkable lists Meta, Xero, American College of Nursing, Colorado Housing and Finance Authority and BNZ amongst its customers and operates globally with staff in New Zealand, Australia, UK and USA.

As part of the deal, former Pushpay CEO and Paymark Chairman, Bruce Gordon will join the Parkable board.

Parkable secures further funding for USA growth

 in a transaction that cements Parkable as Australasia’s fastest-growing park sharing platform.

Tech startup and Deloitte Fast 50 winner Parkable is a sharing economy platform for car parking that allows companies and individuals to rent out their empty parking bays and provides staff parking management solutions for enterprises and small businesses.

Parkable lets users find and pay for car parks on their smartphone, making parking easier and cheaper, and providing a return to the owners of car parks.

The 100% acquisition of Park Genie means that Parkable now offers more than 1,200 parking locations to its approximately 50,000 users in Auckland, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington and Brisbane.

Parkable CEO Toby Littin says the Park Genie business will be integrated into Parkable’s business. Park Genie customers will migrate to the Parkable platform over time and the company intends to grow its presence across Australia.

Shareholders of Park Genie have become shareholders of Parkable. Park Genie’s Brisbane team will run Parkable’s operations in Australia. Mike Davis, Founder of Park Genie, becomes General Manager of Parkable Queensland.

Mr Littin says the introduction of Parkable to Brisbane and Queensland further develops Australia’s sharing economy, and offers new tech solutions for city and business parking.

“Park Genie’s customers can now experience frictionless ‘park by phone’ technology, IoT enabled access control, as well as solutions for staff parking and car park management optimisation,” he said.

“We are really excited to have the Park Genie team become part of the Parkable family. This acquisition brings new strength to the leadership group in Mike Davis and further expansion opportunity for the Parkable technology platform into Australia. Parkable has acquired Australian business Park Genie

This week, Parkable CEO Toby Littin joins PM Jacinda Ardern and 11 other industry delegates on a 

 to support export growth in the United States.

This follows Parkable’s successful launch in the United States in August 2021. Since then, companies and government agencies across Colorado, Washington DC, and Seattle have implemented Parkable’s enterprise software to better manage their staff parking.

 that New Zealand has seen very positive growth in exports to the United States, particularly with high value products like digital services. One goal of the trade mission is to support this growth.

“The United States is a sophisticated market where New Zealand’s clean, green and sustainable brand attracts a premium, both for our food and beverage products, but also our technology and innovation services,” said Jacinda Ardern.

While Parkable’s clients are primarily driven to launch the parking management software due to benefits like improved employee and tenant experience, optimised parking asset use, and reduced administrative burden, the software also has green credentials. These include integrating with EV chargers, notifying employees if there is no onsite parking available so they can plan greeners modes of transport, and reducing the congestion created by circling for a parking spot.

Since COVID-19, Parkable has seen significant growth in Australasia, the UK and the United States as employers seek ways to successfully return their staff to the workplace following lockdowns. The Kiwi startup has recently launched with large enterprises including SEEK, Xero UK and Melbourne, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Verity Credit Union, as well as London business park White City Place.

“Employers want to make it as easy as possible for their staff to come into the office, and that begins with the commute,” says CEO Toby Littin. “Parkable makes employee and tenant parking simple, fair, shareable, and bookable. We’ve seen this becoming hugely important as companies shift to hybrid ways of working.”

The Prime Minister will meet the United Nations Secretary General in New York, followed by senior members of the Senate in Washington DC. In Boston, Ardern will be the commencement address at the 371st Harvard Commencement ceremony, and in San Francisco she will meet the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom.

Ardern and Littin are also accompanied by Minister for Trade and Export Growth Damien O’Connor and business leaders from companies including Silver Fern Farms, Fonterra and Zespri.

Ex-Edelman CEO & President David Brain appointed Chair of Parkable

Parkable, the New Zealand-based parking optimisation start-up, has appointed David Brain as Chair as it gears up for its series B fundraising and scales its world leading operations beyond New Zealand and Australia.

Parkable employs 40 staff, delivering parking software solutions for companies and individuals. It has recently expanded its offer to include EV charging management and payment systems, which has seen the company make significant advances in the UK, as that market transforms for the electrification of motor transport.

“I’ve been an investor and Advisory Board member of Parkable for four years and have seen the team grow from eight people in a crappy, leaky and cold building at Britomart into one of New Zealand’s brightest tech prospects”, said David Brain.

“They are a brilliant group, really well-led and surrounded by some of the smartest advisors and most successful investors in the country, so it is a privilege to be asked to Chair the business. We’re gearing up for the next round of fundraising, which will see Parkable expand its bridgeheads in the UK and US and consolidate leadership in Australia and New Zealand, so it’s a very exciting time for the company,” he added.

David Brain is a Chartered Member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors and is also on the boards of ASX listed

. Previously he has had a global career in PR and advertising, most recently with the world’s biggest PR firm, 

, where he ran Europe and then Asia-Pacific businesses and sat on the New York-based holding company board.

Parkable, Australasia’s fastest-growing parking app, has raised NZ$4.6 million in its first significant funding round led by Spark, New Zealand’s leading digital services company.

The funds will be used to increase Parkable’s leadership of New Zealand’s shared economy parking market, further develop its presence in Australia and China and explore new international markets.

In addition to Spark, investors include Peter Beguely and Rowan Simpson, and early-stage investors and advisory board members Jason Kilgour and David Brain have both increased their holdings.

Parkable, the team behind the successful parking platform that helps workplaces manage employee parking, has launched a new digital offering that improves the value of multi-tenant office buildings, potentially to the tune of $90 million in additional revenue in Melbourne alone.

At a time when yields have reduced for commercial property, Parkable’s new multi-tenant platform has been designed to help transform parking from a fixed asset into a flexible one, to better meet tenant demands and provide new revenue streams for commercial property owners. Several owners and tenants in Australia, including ISPT, XERO, and REA, have eagerly embraced the new offering.

Why is Parkable heading to CREtech this year?

Parkable, the leading Parking Management Software, has announced an integration with Engrain, a recognized leader in next-generation touring technology and map-based data visualization.

The combination of Parkable's Multi-Tenant Platform and Engrain's Unit Map technology will now allow commercial and multifamily property owners and managers to better visualize and understand the utilization of their parking spaces.
