Parking in Christchurch CBD

Christchurch, otherwise known as the Garden City, is located on the East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. Hagley Park and the Christchurch Botanic Gardens provide a focal point to the city and create a recreational haven. As well as visiting the parks, you can take an iconic Christchurch punting tour on the Avon River, starting out from the Antigua boat sheds to explore Christchurch’s sites and history. Walkers and cyclists can follow the numerous river paths adding to the vibe of Garden City.

The 2011 earthquake wreaked havoc on some of the beautiful stone gothic buildings, including the landmark Christchurch cathedral. However, Christchurch is now revitalised, with some restoration and new contemporary architecture on show, and the dining and restaurant scene is quickly becoming one of the most innovative in the country.

The Riverside Market is the ultimate boutique shopping experience, including an indoor market that sources local produce 7 days a week, plus restaurants, bars, cafes, and retail stores. St Asaph Street boasts the Little High Eatery, also not to be missed - it's a trendy and upmarket food court serving dishes from all over the world.

If you are driving into central Christchurch, there are a few options for parking.

On average, commercial car parks are $8 for 2 hours around the CBD and can run up to $16 per 2 hours on Hereford Street. All day parking ranges from $18 to $25 between Monday and Sunday around the CBD.

There is free parking in Hagley Park and the Botanical Gardens for a maximum of 3 hours, and street parking around the city is also an option at the price of $2 per 30 minutes.
